In exchange for the American engineer, the Taliban leader was released from New York and reached Kabul

Kabul: After the release of the senior Taliban leader Haji Bashir Noorzai who was imprisoned in the US prison, the Taliban government also freed the American engineer.

According to the international news organization, Haji Bashir Noorzai, the senior Taliban leader imprisoned in the American prison, was released and reached Kabul under an agreement, in exchange for which the Taliban government also freed the American engineer.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban government, it has been confirmed that Bashir Noorzai, the leader arrested since 2005, has arrived in Kabul, in exchange for which the American engineer Mark Frerichs has been released.

American civil engineer Mark Frerichs was serving as a contractor in Afghanistan and was detained by the Taliban on January 31, 2020. After which the Taliban demanded the release of Bashir Noorzai in exchange for the engineer.

It should be noted that Bashir Noorzai was not imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay prison, but was serving a life sentence in an American prison. He was arrested for smuggling heroin worth $50 million into the United States.

The Taliban leader's lawyers had dismissed the allegations in court saying that their client had been implicated in a baseless case as the US police did not have a solid basis for his arrest.
