Taiwan conflict, the meeting of American and Chinese diplomats will melt the ice?

Top US and Chinese diplomats are meeting in New York on Friday as tensions between the US and China show some signs of easing.

According to the French news agency AFP, US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet on the sidelines of the annual United Nations summit.

It will be their first meeting since extensive talks in July in Bali.

A month later, after the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, the relationship between the US and China was strained.

Even after Nancy Pelosi's visit, China began military exercises and launched several missiles into the waters around Taiwan, as well as sending fighter jets and warships to blockade the island.

President Joe Biden said in an interview that aired Sunday that he is prepared to intervene militarily if China uses force.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said he met US climate envoy John Kerry in New York.

But in a speech before his talks with Anthony Blanken, Wang Yi again expressed anger at US support for Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory.

He said in the think tank of Asia Society that the question of Taiwan is becoming the biggest threat in China-US relations. If it is handled in the wrong way, it is most likely to destroy the bilateral relationship.

He said that just as the United States will not allow Hawaii to be taken away, China has the right to maintain the unity of the country.

He condemned the US decision to "allow" Pelosi to visit Taiwan.

The New York talks are expected to lay the groundwork for the first meeting between President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping.
