Ukraine wants war to end as soon as possible: President Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he wants to end the Ukraine war as soon as possible.

According to the French news agency AFP, President Putin told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan that he understands India's concerns about the war in Ukraine. And they want to end the war as soon as possible.

I know your position and concerns on Ukraine. We will do our best to end this war as soon as possible.

"Unfortunately, the other side, the Ukrainian leadership, has rejected the negotiation process and declared that they want to achieve their goals through military means," Vladimir Putin said.

According to AFP, Prime Minister Modi told President Putin that this is not the time for war.

Russia and Delhi have long-standing and close ties dating back to the Cold War era, and Russia is the largest arms seller to India.

But in the first public meeting since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February this year, Prime Minister Modi told President Putin, "Your Excellency, I know this is not the time for war."

India has not yet openly condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine.

But Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of democracy, diplomacy and dialogue in his meeting with President Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

According to Doordarshan TV, Modi said before the meeting that 'we will discuss in the meeting how to proceed on the path of peace.'

This has come out on behalf of the Indian Prime Minister at a time when Russia admitted a day ago that its main ally China also has concerns over the Ukraine war.
