14 crore people are deprived of electricity due to failure in the national grid of Bangladesh

A fault in Bangladesh's national power grid left most of the country without electricity.

Officials of the Bangladesh Power Development Board said a transmission line faulted somewhere in the eastern part of the country.

According to the officials, due to this failure, all the power plants tripped due to which power was cut off for other major cities including the capital Dhaka and 14 crore people lost power.

He said that experts are trying to determine where the fault occurred and what caused it, but it may take several hours to restore power.

He said that power would be restored in Dhaka by 8 pm (Bangladesh time).

The Bangladeshi government had already shut down all diesel-powered power plants to cut down on import costs, leading to power shortages.

Due to the shutdown of diesel plants, Bangladesh faced a power shortage of 1500 MW.
