It is known about the victims of the incident that the child's parents are Jaslin Kaur and Jasdeep Singh while Amandeep Singh was also with them.
Merced's sheriff says the man in custody had a robbery conviction in 2005 and it's unlikely he was the only one involved in the recent crime.
CNN has reported with reference to the video in possession of the police that in it, Jasdeep and Amandeep are seen approaching their truck. At that time, Jasdeep encounters a person who is carrying a waste basket, but at the same time, he takes out a weapon from the basket.
The video then shows both of them being tied behind their hands and being forced into a truck. The gunman then enters where Jessalyn is with the baby and takes them away as well.
Officials say that after the incident, a person found the hostages' mobile phones lying on a road on Monday.
Jasdeep and Amandeep's parents Dr. Randhir Singh and Corporal Kaur hail from village Harsipind in Hoshiarpur.
