A gunman has attacked a day care center in Thailand, killing at least 34 people.
According to French news agency AFP, on Thursday, an armed man with a gun and a knife entered a deer care center in the city of Nang Bua Lam Phu in the southeastern province of the country and opened fire.
Police chief Colonel Jakapat Wijitrithiya says that 23 of the 34 people killed are children.
The police said that the armed man also opened fire on his family, after which he also shot himself.
He further said that the attacker was known to be a former police officer.

He said, "Initially, people felt as if there were fireworks."
In the videos shared on social media, it can be seen that the bodies of the children have been covered with sheets and blood is visible everywhere.
Earlier, the police said that the assailant had escaped and was being searched for, but later it was reported that the assailant had also shot himself.
Thailand has a high rate of public gun ownership compared to neighboring countries, but incidents of mass shootings are rare.
In the year 2020, a soldier had killed 29 people and injured 57 in a land dispute.
