The last 8 years have been the hottest years in the world, United Nations

The last 8 years have been the warmest years in the history of the world, indicating a dramatic increase in global temperature.

This was stated in the report released by the United Nations on the occasion of the opening of the COP 27 climate conference in Egypt.

The report noted that there has been an increase in sea level rise, melting glaciers, torrential rains, heat waves and other natural disasters.

According to the report, the Earth's temperature has increased by 1.1 degrees Celsius since the end of the 19th century and 50% of the increase has occurred in the last 30 years.

Delegations from 197 countries are participating in this conference to consult on achieving the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

A report compiled by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) stated that sea water temperatures reached record levels in 2021 while the rate of marine heat waves is also increasing.

A total of 55 percent of the sea surface area experienced at least one heat wave in 2022.

The report further stated that the rate of sea level rise has doubled in the last 30 years due to the melting of glaciers and ice sheets, increasing the risks for millions of people living in various coastal areas.

According to WMO, emissions of greenhouse gases that cause global warming are at record levels.

WMO chief Petteri Taalas said developed countries are also facing climate risks such as heatwaves and drought in most of Europe during 2022.
