New Zealand sniper Ijaz Patel has taken 10 wickets in the first innings of the second Test against India in Mumbai.Ejaz Patel is the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to achieve this feat. He has equaled the record of Jim Laker and Anil Kumble.
This feat was performed by Ijaz Patel on the second day of the second Test match against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
He scored 119 runs in 48 overs in the first innings of the Test match and sent all the Indian players to the pavilion and limited the home team to 325 runs.
For India, Mainak Agarwal scored 150 and Akshar Patel 52 runs.
Earlier, England's Jim Laker had taken 10 wickets against Australia in Manchester in 1953 and India's Anil Kumble had taken 10 wickets against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. However, Ijaz Patel has won the award in India, far from his home country New Zealand.
Ejaz Patel, 34, immigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1996 and is the fifth Indian-born player to play for the New Zealand national team.
Earlier, Indian-born players Ted Bedcock, Tom Poona, Ash Sodhi and Jeet Rawal have represented New Zealand.
Former India league sniper Anil Kumble praised Ijaz Patel for taking 10 wickets and said "Welcome to the club".
The former Indian sniper said that taking ten wickets on the first and second day of a Test match is the result of special efforts.
Harbhajan Singh, another former Indian sniper, wrote in a tweet that "Ijaz Patel, this will be remembered for a lifetime."
"Let me get up and clap."
Australian batsman Aaron Finch was also impressed by Ijaz Patel and praised the performance of the New Zealand sniper.
Former India batsman VVS Laxman wrote that Ijaz Patel performed this feat in the city where he was born.
The first match of the two-Test series ended in a draw in Kanpur, while India had earlier won the T20 series 3-0.
