Shaukat Ahmed Ghani, a Kashmiri student, was arrested four days after celebrating Pakistan's victory over India in the T20 World Cup match at the Dubai International Stadium on October 24.

Speaking to Indian website The Wire, Shaukat Ahmed Ghani's mother Hafeeza said, "Pakistan won the match but my son is being punished."Hafeez says her son's exams will start on January 3, but how will he hand over the papers after spending two months in jail?

Shaukat Ahmed Ghani, 22, is a B.Tech student at Raja Balwant Singh Engineering and Technical College in Uttar Pradesh.

The case against three Kashmiri students, including Shaukat Ahmed Ghani, was registered after right-wing Hindu nationalist groups infiltrated the Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Technical College. He was accused of chanting anti-India slogans.

The college administration vehemently denied the allegations.

A day after the arrest, the three students were produced before a magistrate and later transferred to Agra Jail.

The police had also included section 124A (mutiny) in the FIR.

The economically backward families of the three students in Kashmir do not know how to get their children out of jail.

The three students are members of their families who are pursuing professional degrees for the first time and are studying in private institutions under a scholarship for deserving students from Kashmir by the Indian government.

Shaukat Ahmad Ghani is the youngest son of Muhammad Shaban Ghani. Mohammad Shaaban Ghani is a laborer, his earnings often do not cover household expenses.

Shaaban's wife Hafiza says, "My husband and I endured hardships so that our children would not be harmed, but look what fate has done for us."

The other arrested student is Arshad Paul, an orphan.

Shabbir, the uncle of the third arrested student Inayat, said, "Initially we could not find a lawyer to fight the case. Now the court is not listening to our pleas." Elections are coming up in Uttar Pradesh next year, we are surrounded by fears.

Like the families of the other two students, Shaukat's parents found out about his arrest through social media.

Mohammad Shaaban Ghani says, "I do not have a regular income. My eldest son dropped out of school to support the family financially. I had to take loans from my relatives and neighbors so that I could go to Uttar Pradesh and meet him.

Prior to his arrest, the college administration had informed Shaukat's father about his outstanding academic achievements and said that he would get a job soon.

Madhuwan Dutt, counsel for the three students, said that he had applied to the Allahabad High Court for transfer of the case from Agra and also for bail. However, both the petitions have not been heard yet.
