For the first time in its history, Air New Zealand has launched a series of direct flights between Auckland and New York.
According to the American news channel CNN, these long-haul flights will start from Auckland on September 17 this year and this news indicates that New Zealand is gradually opening up for world tourism.
Flights from Auckland are numbered 'NZ2' and flights from New York are numbered 'NZ1'. These numbers give an idea of how important this new route to Air New Zealand is.
"Traditionally one and two numbers are used for the airline's flagship route, and New York will be our flagship route," said Greg Foreign, the airline's CEO, in a statement.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will operate three flights a week from both cities, and ticket sales have begun on Air New Zealand's website.
The flight time from New York to Auckland will be 17 hours 35 minutes which is one of the longest flights in the world.
"We've worked hard over the last few years to make this long-haul flight possible," said Greg Foreign. We have made arrangements to make the journey pleasant to keep the passengers refreshed till they reach New York. Our experienced teams are working day and night to make it better. "
Currently, the longest flight in the world is between Singapore and American Airport JF Kennedy with a duration of 18 hours.
