UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 540 prisoners from UAE prisons ahead of Ramadan.
A report by the UAE's state-run news agency WAM states that the UAE president announces a reduction in prison sentences on an annual basis before the month of Ramadan.

The special purpose of this concession and sympathy is to reform the society as well as to give the pardoned prisoners a chance to start a new life and alleviate the suffering of their families.
The released prisoners have the opportunity to improve their future anew and to live their future lives in a responsible society in peace and in accordance with the law.
