Abira murder case: Model Azmi Rao acquitted on the basis of lack of evidence

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has acquitted model Azmi Rao, who was convicted in the murder case of fellow model Abira, on the basis of lack of evidence.

On Monday, a two-member bench headed by Justice Shahram Sarwar heard the plea of the convict.

The court ruled in the case on the basis of lack of evidence and ordered the release of Azmi Rao.

In 2018, the Sessions Court had sentenced Uzma Rao to death for killing model Abira.

He had challenged the death sentence in the High Court.

Police had registered a case against him at Shera Kot police station in Lahore.

Model Abira was murdered in March 2014 and her body was packed in a suitcase and dumped in a lorry depot.

Azmi Rao and two of his accomplices were arrested in 2015 on murder charges.
