Karachi: Australian batsman Alyssa Haley broke many records by playing 170 innings in the Women's World Cup final against England.
Alyssa Haley also set a new individual innings record in the World Cup final, a feat previously won by her compatriot Adam Gilchrist, who played a magnificent 149 against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup final.
England's Natalie Square could not equal Gilchrist's record with just one run away, he played 148 innings in the same match. Haley and fellow opener Rachel Heinz also broke former Kiwi batsman Debbie Hockley's record for most 456 runs in a single edition.
He did so in 1997, with Haley scoring 509 in the most recent edition and Heinz 497. Earlier, former Australian batsman Karen Rolton held the record for the most individual innings of a women's cricketer in the final. Made 107 not out against India in 2005.
He also surpassed Sir Vivian Richards (138 not out against England 1979) and former Australian captain Ricky Ponting (140 not out vs India 2003) and Adam Gilchrist (149 vs Sri Lanka 2007).
Alicia Haley became the first cricketer in the world (both men and women) to score two consecutive centuries in the World Cup semi-final and then in the final, in addition to her compatriot Shane Watson in the international event, the semi-final of the 2009 Champions Trophy and then in the final.
