Floods wreak havoc in South Africa, killing more than 300

 Cape Town: Heavy rains and floods have killed at least 306 people in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, including in Durban.


According to AP News, meteorologists have forecast more rains in the coming days. The death toll is expected to rise as several people, including several families, are still missing, officials said.



Dozens of houses and buildings across the province have been destroyed as a result of incessant rains, while major highways have also been badly damaged.

The damage to Durban and the surrounding Ethiopian metropolitan area has been estimated at 5. 52 million, said Ecclesiastical Municipality Mayor Maxulosi Konda.


On the other hand, at least 120 schools across the province have been flooded, causing a loss of more than 26 26 million. All schools in the province have been ordered to close temporarily.


Education Minister Angie Motsiga said 18 students and a teacher from different schools had been killed in the floods so far.
