Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been brought back to the Bangladesh T20 team as the captain.
According to the French news agency AFP, Shakib Al Hasan's nomination was made possible after he terminated his contract with an online gambling site on Saturday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) head of cricket operations, Jalal Younis, while announcing the decision, told reporters that Shakib has realized his mistake. He is a very important player for us.
Earlier this month, Shakib Al Hasan announced a partnership with Betwinner News, a portal run by a Curacao-based gambling firm.
He wrote on his social media pages that this is the only source of sports news.
Gambling is illegal in Bangladesh and BCB president Nazmul Hasan gave him an ultimatum to choose between the national team and the bet winner, forcing him to cancel the contract.
Out of the 21 T20 matches under Shakib-ul-Hasan's captaincy, Bangladesh won seven and lost 14 matches. Later he was banned for two years.
Shakib Al Hasan returned as Test captain in July. He has been appointed T20 captain of Bangladesh in place of wicketkeeper-batter Noorul Hasan.
