Battle near Ukraine nuclear plant 'serious' crisis: UN

 The UN's nuclear watchdog has warned of a 'serious' crisis stemming from fighting near a Ukrainian nuclear power plant.

According to the news agency AFP, the head of the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Thursday in an emergency meeting of the Security Council about the "serious" crisis arising near the "Zaporizhiya" nuclear power plant in Ukraine. I warned.

Russian and Ukrainian forces have fired at each other during a battle near a nuclear plant.

"This is a very serious and grave situation," International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi told the Security Council.

He said that the IAEA should be allowed to conduct a mission in Zaporizhzhya immediately.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of "nuclear blackmail" and urged the international community to "react immediately to drive the occupiers out of Zaporizhzhia."

Zelensky said in a video address to the nation that "only the complete withdrawal of the Russians from Ukraine can guarantee nuclear security for the whole of Europe."

Moscow and Kiev on Thursday accused each other of shelling near the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Five months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it is being declared a dangerous situation of war.

Both sides said five rockets were fired near a radioactive material storage area at the plant.

Zaporizhzhia, Europe's largest nuclear facility, has been at the center of renewed fighting in recent days.
