'Weak' ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad after three days of fierce fighting

An Egyptian-brokered 'weak' ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza has been reached.

According to the French news agency AFP, the cease-fire on Monday morning raised hopes of an end to the latest conflict, in which 44 Palestinians, including 15 children, have been killed.

The cease-fire, which officially began at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, was aimed at halting the worst fighting in Gaza since last year's 11-day war between Israel and Hamas.

However, before and after the cease-fire, southern Israel saw a series of attacks and rocket attacks with sirens blaring. However, neither side reported any major violations of the agreement four hours after the ceasefire.
