100 Muslim citizens arrested in India on suspicion of being involved in terrorism

According to Indian media, 100 people belonging to the Popular Front of India (PFI), a Muslim organization in India, have been arrested on suspicion of allegedly being involved in 'terrorism'.

According to Indian Express, the houses of PFI workers were raided in the crackdown in 10 states.

News Agency PTI says that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has termed the arrests as the worst in the terror investigation so far.

The Indian Express, quoting sources, also said that the action was taken on reports that some people were inciting youths towards terrorism.

According to him, "Action was decided after coming to light of solid evidence that people are running terrorist camps, providing funds and asking people to join PFI."

According to the report, at least ten locations in Bangalore and Karnataka were raided, including the residence of PPFI state president Nazir Pasha.

Apart from the PFI, two members of the Social Democratic Party (SDPI) were detained in Mangalore who were protesting outside the offices against the search operation.

Nellikai Road was closed during the operation and officials continued to search various areas.

Before the raids, the NIA had directed the police to take all necessary steps to control the law and order situation.

On the other hand, the PFI has said in a statement in response to the raids that "we strongly protest against this fascist government's campaign to suppress the voices of dissent."

It has been said in the statement that the houses of national, state and local level leaders are being raided.

Keep in mind that PFI is an Islamic organization that has been accused by the government of being involved in extremism.

It emerged in 2006 as a successor to the National Development Front (NDF), which was later joined by other organizations.

PFI describes itself as a social organization.
