'Pakistan's important ally informed Congress about the F-16 deal'

The US State Department has said that it has informed the Congress regarding the sale of F-16 aircraft parts to Pakistan, which will help in the operation against terrorists.

According to the news agency AFP, in a media briefing in Washington, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Pakistan is an important ally of the United States in many fields.

Despite growing ties with India, the Pentagon last week approved the sale of $450 million worth of parts to Pakistan.

Spokesperson Ned Price also expressed concern over media restrictions in Pakistan.

In response to a question from a journalist associated with ARY News, he said, "We are concerned about restrictions on media and civil society in Pakistan."

"We are concerned about restrictions on media and content, as well as the non-apprehension of those who attack journalists, which undermines freedom of expression and public awareness," he said.

He said that free press is essential for the future of a democratic society.

F-16 maintenance and services contract

Under the agreement, $450 million will be spent on equipment and services for the maintenance of F-16 aircraft.

The principal contractor in this contract is Lockheed Martin, the American company that manufactures F-16.

According to a statement released by the US Department of Defense last week, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the United States provided the required certification in this regard, after which Congress was informed about this possible sale.

In recent weeks, the United States announced $50 million in aid for flood victims in Pakistan.
