Spain's new visa program for stay-at-home workers

Spain has decided to launch a 'Digital Nomad' visa program for citizens from countries outside the European Union.

Under this program, visas will be issued to individuals who will be working at home for companies outside of Spain.

This visa will allow these people to stay in Spain.

The initial validity of this visa will be one year which can be extended up to 5 years later.

Close relatives of the individual such as spouse or children will also be eligible for the visa program.

The program will also have some conditions such as applicants must be from outside Europe and must prove that they have been working at home for at least one year.

Likewise, these individuals must also have an employment contract or, in the case of freelance work, prove that they are working permanently for a company outside of Spain.

These individuals must also prove that their income is sufficient to support them and register a Spanish address.

These individuals will be taxed at 15% instead of 25% for the first 4 years.

Legislation will be made in this regard in which the details will be determined.

After this program, Spain will join the other 15 European countries that are issuing such visas, with each country setting its own rules and regulations.

For example, applicants in Croatia must have a minimum monthly income of 23 hundred euros, in Ireland 71 hundred euros, while in Portugal only 700 euros are required.

Spain has not decided the details in this regard yet, but there the minimum monthly income can be kept at 2 thousand euros.
