An attack on a shrine in Shiraz, Iran, killed 15 people

Iran's official media has said that 15 pilgrims were killed and 10 injured by three gunmen who opened fire at a shrine in the Iranian city of Shiraz.

According to the British news agency Reuters, the attack on Wednesday was described as a "terrorist" attack by Iran's official news agency IRNA.

IRNA has said that this incident of firing took place at 5:45 PM local time at Shah Chirag Mazar in Shiraz. The assailants targeted visitors and staff at the entrance of the shrine from a vehicle.

According to IRNA, two attackers have been arrested while efforts are being made to arrest the third.

The semi-official news agency Tasnim, without revealing the name of a person associated with the security, said regarding the attack that the attackers belonged to the Sunni extremist group who took advantage of the unrest in the country to attack.

According to Tasnim, women and children are also among the dead.

It should be noted that after the death of 22-year-old Mehsa Amini in police custody, anti-government protests have been ongoing in Iran since September 16.

According to human rights groups, 200 protesters have been killed so far while thousands have been arrested.
