Condemning the 'illegal' integration of Ukrainian territories in the United Nations, Pakistan abstained from voting

The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly condemned Russia's "illegal" annexation of several regions of Ukraine.

According to French news agency AFP, the General Assembly on Wednesday voted for a resolution to condemn Russia's annexation of parts of Ukraine, with 143 members voting in favor.

However, despite US diplomatic efforts against Russia, 35 countries did not participate in the voting, including Pakistan, India and China.

The resolution called on the United Nations and international organizations not to recognize Russia's border changes and called on Moscow to "immediately and unconditionally" withdraw its decisions.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken said in his response that the vote showed international unity against Russia.

He made it clear once again that Washington will never recognize a 'fake' referendum.

The US Secretary of State added in a statement that this vote is a strong affirmation of the majority of countries' support for Ukraine and their strong opposition to Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine and its people.

US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas, urged all countries to send a message that the occupation of a neighboring country's land by force will not be tolerated.

He said that today Russia attacked Ukraine but it could be any other country whose territorial boundaries have been violated. You could be next. So what do you expect from this chamber?

America struggled to win the vote of South Africa and especially India. India and the US have a growing partnership, but have historically close ties with Russia.

India abstained from voting in the Security Council. It has non-permanent membership in the United Nations.

Bangladesh, Iraq and Senegal, which did not participate in the March vote, voted against Russia on Wednesday.

Eritrea, which had earlier voted 'No', abstained this time. While Nicaragua is facing international pressure on human rights. He also did not vote.

India's Ambassador Rochira Kamboj says that the war in Ukraine has damaged the whole world.

He said that the resolution did not focus on dealing with immediate problems.

On September 30, President Vladimir Putin annexed four regions of Ukraine to Russia.
