Kidnapping of Ukrainian nuclear plant staff, G-Sion condemned

The Group of Seven industrialized nations have condemned Russia's kidnapping of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant crew and called for the immediate return of full control of the plant to Ukraine.

According to the British news agency Reuters, the director general of G-Seven's disarmament and non-proliferation department said in a statement that "We condemn the repeated abduction of leadership and staff of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant by Russia."

"We urge Russia to immediately return full control of Zaporizhia to its rightful sovereign owner, Ukraine," he said.

Since the early days of the invasion of Ukraine, which began in February, Russian forces have occupied Europe's largest nuclear plant.

Zaporizhzhia, Europe's largest nuclear facility, has been at the center of renewed fighting in recent days.

On the other hand, Russia has also launched missile attacks on energy installations in Ukraine, causing blackouts in various parts of the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has said that Russia has carried out large-scale attacks. He pledged that the Ukrainian military would improve its ability to shoot down Russian missiles with the help of its partners.

"We don't have 100 percent technical ability to shoot down Russian missiles and drones, but we will gradually get it with the help of our partners."

He said that on Saturday, the Ukrainian army shot down 20 missiles and more than ten Iranian-made Shahid drones.

More than a million citizens are affected by blackouts due to attacks on energy installations, but President Zelenskiy has assured that power will be restored soon.

Petro Panteleev, the deputy head of the local administration of the capital Kiev, has warned that the power and heating system in the city could be affected for several days and weeks due to the Russian attacks.

Besides, due to the tense situation in the occupied areas of Kherson, the Russian authorities have instructed the citizens to leave the area immediately.

The Russian authorities have said in an ongoing message that due to the tension in the situation, there is a risk of large-scale shelling and terrorist attacks on the city, so all citizens should leave the area immediately.

The Ukrainian army has advanced to the southern regions of Kherson and claimed to have recaptured two villages.

The General Staff of Ukraine has said that they are moving towards the areas of Kherson that the Russian army left after their temporary occupation.
