Iran's threats to Canadian citizens, investigation launched

Canadian officials have said that they are investigating a case of death threats from Iran to Canadians.

According to Arab News, Canadian Security Intelligence Services (CSIS) spokesperson Eric Balsam says that "reliable sources have revealed threats that have been made by Iran to certain people living in Canada and that are being investigated.'

He further said that 'such interference and hostile activities may ultimately pose a threat to Canada's security and democratic values and sovereignty.'

According to news channel CBC, this is the first time the intelligence service has confirmed that it is investigating large-scale "catastrophic threats to Canadians from Iran."

On Wednesday, Canada imposed sanctions on Iran for the fifth time in a year, citing human rights abuses and the supply of drones to Russia against Ukraine.

Britain's intelligence agencies said this week that since the beginning of the year, Iran has received at least 10 threats to harm or kidnap British citizens.

Ken McCallum, director of the British security agency MI5, says that "the aggressive style of Iranian organizations is becoming a sign of danger for the UK."

He further said that in the ongoing protest wave in Iran, the people are asking basic questions to the totalitarian government. This is a sign of deep change.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley last week summoned Iran's top diplomat after journalists working in the UK received death threats from Iran.

It should be noted that the Iranian government is showing force to stop the protests that started after the death of a 22-year-old woman in police custody in Iran.

At least 360 people, including 50 children, have been killed in the violence so far.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley will visit the Middle East this week and inform the world about the Iranian threat to the region, which can cause damage not only to the region but also to other countries.

On October 30, a demonstration in support of the Iranian protesters was held in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, which was also attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

On this occasion, he said that "we have not forgotten the women, daughters, grandmothers, grandmothers and other allies in Iran."
