Passenger plane crashes in Lake Victoria, Tanzania

A Precision Airlines passenger plane crashed in Tanzania's Lake Victoria on Sunday while trying to land at Bukoba airport.

According to Reuters news agency, Tanzania's official news agency TBC reported that 15 people have been rescued so far, but it was not known how many passengers were on board the Precision Air plane and how many casualties there were.

The Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation reported that the passenger plane had departed from the capital Dar es Salaam but crashed into Lake Victoria this morning due to storms and heavy rains.

Video footage and photos circulating on social media showed the plane almost completely submerged, with some of the rear and tail of the plane visible above the waterline.

The official news agency added that rescue boats have been dispatched to the crash site and emergency volunteers are continuing efforts to rescue other passengers trapped on board.

Tanzanian President Samia Saluho Hassan has appealed for peace to continue with relief operations and encouraged the families of the passengers.

President Samia Hasan has said in his tweet that I have received the news of the accident of the Precision Air plane with sadness. Let's stay calm while the rescuers continue the rescue mission and pray to God to help us.

It should be noted that Bukoba Airport is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, and Precious Air is the largest privately owned airline in Tanzania.
