Polling for parliamentary and local elections in Bahrain

Votes have been cast for parliamentary and local elections in Bahrain on Saturday. The polling process started at 8 am and continued till evening.

According to the Bahraini News Agency, the turnout was higher than the previous elections.

From Saturday morning, Bahraini citizens started arriving at the polling station to exercise their right to vote. Especially a large number of women exercised their right to vote.

The Chairman of the Bahraini Shura Council has praised the turnout of the parliamentary and local elections. According to the official agency, people were queuing up outside the polling stations even before the polling time started.

55 polling stations were set up for the parliamentary and local elections, while Bahraini citizens living or residing abroad were given the opportunity to vote in 27 missions around the world.

According to Bahraini authorities, more than 500 candidates are in the field for 40 parliamentary and 30 local government seats. Among them are 94 women. This number is double the number of candidates participating in the 2018 elections.

It should be noted that the Parliament of Bahrain consists of the Council of Elected Representatives and the Shura Council. Its 40 members are appointed by the King.

Previously, Bahrain's Ministry of Interior claimed yesterday that "attempts are being made to hack official websites to disrupt the elections."
