President Joe Biden said in a statement that al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a US drone strike in Kabul. He said that al-Zawahiri was responsible for the killing of several American citizens.
According to the American media, the American intelligence agency (CIA) targeted Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone attack in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday. No civilian was killed in the drone attack. Ayman al-Zawahiri assumed command of the organization after the 2011 death of its founding leader, Osama bin Laden.
The US had set a reward of 25 million dollars for helping to arrest Ayman al-Zawahiri. On the other hand, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the US drone attack and condemned it and called the attack a violation of international law.
