Six months of Russia-Ukraine war, what could be the possible results?

Six months after Russian forces invaded Ukraine, the war has turned into a campaign with no clear end in sight.

Much of the east and south of the country is under Russian control, depriving Ukraine of Black Sea ports that are important for grain exports, according to the French news agency AFP.

Meanwhile, Russia is also under Western sanctions.

How long can this war last?

Both sides are suffering loss of life and money but no one seems willing to consider a ceasefire.

Ukrainians believe they are fighting to defend a nationhood that Putin has dismissed as a historical misunderstanding.

Moscow-based political analyst Konstantin Kalachev believes that no one can win in such a situation. This 'special military operation' could continue for years.

"Russia is hoping to defeat them and win," he told AFP. Time is not on Ukraine's side, and its economy may collapse.

Marie Dumoulin, director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, says that "the strong support of the Western allies will make it difficult for both sides to back down now."
